In January 2023, Sensee Foundation of Hope entered its third calendar year of operations as a 501 C (3) nonprofit organization, dedicated to supporting underprivileged people struggling to meet basic needs such as food, clothing, and education. Our mission to empower disadvantaged women and children to overcome the challenges of poverty is gaining momentum, especially in the rural areas of Liberia, where our Children Education Programs are producing encouraging results. Education and Empowerment continue to be our focus in 2023. 2022 Activities. Sensee Foundation of Hope is thrilled to report significant accomplishments in 2022. In June 2022, we embarked on an ambitious project to renovate the Tahn Maffa Elementary School in Mbaloma, Grand CapeMount County, Liberia. The school building, and classrooms were in a state of major disrepair, and there was a dire need for upgraded restroom facilities and adequate classroom furniture including blackboards, desks, chairs, tables, doors, and windows. In addition to a physical infrastructure upgrade, we identified the need for qualified teachers to assist with learning activities at the school. Prior to the School Renovation Project, school enrollment was very low due to the many problems the school was facing. With the building improvements we completed and the new furniture and fixtures we provided, enrollment has tripled, and the school has become a fully functioning elementary school. Notwithstanding this success, The highlight of the entire School Renovation Project has been the tremendous support and committed participation by members of the community. This has been a gratifying experience for Sensee Foundation and everyone else involved. To ensure that we meet all local and government requirements for the activities we are pursuing at the school, the organization coordinated all activities related to the school upgrade and acquisition of Teachers, with representatives in the Ministry of Education, and other relevant public officials. With successful collaboration between the Foundation and the Liberian Education Department, the Ministry approved five qualified teachers who are now working with the organization. The Volunteer Teachers will receive a Stipend each month for their services. Other programs: Our Widows program that benefits the widows, was placed on hold for the last two months of 2022 due to the shortage and high prices of rice In the country. However, since then, the Liberian government lifted the tariffs on goods at the port of Monrovia, which stabilized the price and the availability of rice. The organization will resume the Widows meal program in 2023. We are now in the process of reviving the Widows Program to full strength, and plan to add up to 5 new Widows this year. We also plan to empower more eligible young women through sponsorship to learn skills that will enable them to sustain themselves. 2023 Plans: Sensee Foundation is continuing to build on the momentum we have gained from the previous years. As of January 2023, the school has seen an increase in student enrollment from 50 students in the prior years, to141. As the school continues to grow, we are committed to making the necessary adjustments and improvements for safety, class sizes and Teachers. In January 2023 we reviewed the improvements from the School Renovation Project and found that there is still a great deal of work to be done to ensure the stability of all structures and the safety of the students and faculty at the school. Work on restrooms facilities for the School is in progress and is expected to be completed by the end of March 2023. The organization plans to continue to reach out to more students in the rural area of Liberia who will not otherwise have the opportunity for an education in these parts of the country if an organization like ours did not come to their aid. The work we have accomplished so far has been a gratifying experience for Sensee Foundation and everyone else involved; however, there is so much work ahead of us. Despite our best intentions we were unable to have the Year-End/Christmas Celebrations owing to the priority we placed on the School Renovation Project and the financial commitment it took to have the school ready for full operation in 2023. It is our wish, with your help, to revive this program for 2023. This was our first event in Liberia that led to the founding of the organization. We sincerely extend our thanks and gratitude to all our donors who made our accomplishments possible. Your gifts and support are highly appreciated. We need Volunteers!
